NUST EMBRACES MAINTANANCE SOFTWARE TRAINING

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) through the Faculty of Engineering recently held a training on SERTICA software. SERTICA is a maintenance management system widely used in the field of maritime by shipping companies worldwide. In addition, it has provision for procurement and other relevant functions.

The aim of the trainingwas to train the NUST, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK), and Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute (NAMFI) facilitators and other stakeholders to be equipped with the knowledge of how to use the software for the maintenance of the electrical system of the R/V Maribilis. The R/V Mirabilis is a deep-sea fisheries research vessel owned by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. This software is much relevant and useful to the marine engineering students to know how to use it    before embark the on-board training.

The trainer, Mr Jens Elung from Denmark explained that SERTICA is a maintenance management system designed to manage, monitor and document maintenance activities in the vessel. He further explained that the same software could be used in any organization for the same purpose.

NUST Lab Technician Mr David Shikulo highlighted that it was a privilege for him to attend the training and he is looking forward for NUST to implement the use of the software.” We have different equipment in our lab that need proper maintenance I therefore, believe that this software will help us to effectively maintain our equipment, said Shikulo.”
