Marine Engineering students recently visited the marine cluster of Walvis Bay

The Marine Engineering students at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) recently visited the marine cluster of Walvis Bay.  The first cohort of students for the BTech (Marine Engineering) were registered in January 2019 as part of the double degree programe. The programme was developed in partnership with the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) in Finland, and the Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute (NAMFI).

Marine engineering is a field that deals with machinery on ships, boats yachts or any sea vessels. The aim of the trip was to familiarise the students with the marine cluster environment, introduce students to practical scenarios in their course and prepare them for the industry. The students were given extensive tours of the Port of Walvis Bay including synchrolift facilities, marine docks and workshops – exposure to tug boats and speed surveillance boats.
